Tourism Courses

Careers Training Centre offers the following nationally accredited Tourism courses, where students are immersed into the field and gain relevant skills and knowledge to be successful in the most important industry to Cairns. Courses are available with options for Government Funding:

Full Qualifications:

SIT20116 – Certificate II in Tourism:$3100

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a defined range of basic tourism technical skills. Work would be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered or a combination of both.

SIT30116 – Certificate III in Tourism:$3600

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of well-developed tourism sales, operational and tour delivery skills. The qualification reflects the role of skilled operators who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge.

SIT40116 – Certificate IV in Travel and Tourism: $5000

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a broad range of sales and marketing or operational skills combined with sound knowledge of industry operations. They use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

SIT50116 – Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management: $6100

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a broad range of managerial skills in tourism operations, marketing and product development, underpinned by a range of operational competencies chosen as electives. The qualification allows for multi-skilling or for specialisation in a limited range of skills that specifically relate to operations management or marketing and product development.

Short Courses:

Careers Training Centre offers the ability to suit courses to specific training needs. Short courses can be pulled from the certificate course subjects so you can learn about a specific topic. You can complete any units that Careers Training Centre offer to create your own short course. Here are some examples of short courses on offer:

SITTGDE004 – Lead Tour Groups: 

This unit details the necessary skills and knowledge that are required when coordinating a group of customers. The course focuses on effective communication and leadership. This course can also be linking with the following guiding units:

  • SITTGDE001  – Interpret aspects of local Australian Indigenous culture
  • SITTGDE004 – Lead tour groups
  • SITTGDE005 – Prepare and present tour commentaries or activities
  • SITTGDE006 – Develop and maintain the general and regional knowledge required by guides

SITTTSL007 – Process Reservations: 

This unit details the skills and knowledge that are required to receive and process customer reservations in tourism and hospitality. The course describes the ability to determine the availability of products and services, offer alternatives and accurately record reservation details.

SITXCCS002 – Provide visitor Information: 

This unit details the skills and knowledge that are required to assist customer enquiries by accessing the information on facilities, products and services in the local area.
